The Divinity of Dogs

SNAP SNAP (Spay Neuter Assistance for Pets) is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization whose primary purpose is to reduce the number of stray and unwanted animals in Monroe County, TN by providing low-income residents with free Spay or Neuter vouchers for their pets.

SNAP offers free vouchers to qualified pet owners that will pay for a spay or neuter procedure at participating local veterinarians.

Vouchers are limited to residents of Monroe County or Loudon County, earning less than $20,000/year for an individual or less than $30,000/year for a household or individuals who are on Disability, Medicaid, Handicapped or Food Stamp recipients. A photo ID is required to verify County residence. Voucher sessions are held monthly in each county. Dates and locations of upcoming sessions are available by contacting:
  • Spay/Neuter Assistance for Pets    (423) 884-6801 or snap_spay_neuter@bellsouth.net
  • Monroe County Animal Shelter        (423) 442-1015
  • Loudon County Animal Shelter        (865) 458-5593
  • Loudon County Humane Society     (865) 671-8654
Vouchers issued at the Monroe County sessions must be used at designated Monroe County vets. Vouchers issued at the Loudon County sessions must be used at designated Loudon County vets. In six years, SNAP has raised about $260,000 from 15 different foundations and organizations. SNAP used these funds to spay or neuter about 4500 pet dogs and cats. More than 98% of all funds raised are used to pay for spay/neuter surgery.

On October 1, 2008, SNAP was awarded a 2-year, $200,000 targeted spay/neuter grant from Maddie’s Fund ® to be used for qualifying Monroe and Loudon County residents. SNAP has received grants from other organizations for use primarily in Monroe County:

SNAP About Maddie's Fund: Maddie’s Fund® The Pet Rescue Foundation, (www.maddiesfund.org) is a family foundation funded by Workday and PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl. Maddie's Fund is helping to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home. To achieve this goal, Maddie's Fund is investing its resources in building community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving; in veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum; in private practice veterinarians to encourage greater participation in the animal welfare cause; and in the implementation of national strategies to collect and report shelter statistics. Maddie’s Fund is named after the family’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997.
